Lorena and Andrea co-chair the Law Student Committee. This committee shall (A) assist the Association with all functions undertaken by the Association which affect law students, and (B) perform such other tasks as the Board may request.
Lorena is a third year law student at Fordham University School of Law and a recipient of the DBA's 2016 Law School Scholarship. She was born in Miami, Florida to a mother who emigrated from Nicaragua and a father from the Dominican Republic. She obtained her Bachelor’s from Middlebury College, the first in her family to receive a college degree. At Fordham, Lorena is a Stein Scholar for the public interest, an Associate Editor of Fordham’s International Law Journal, a competitor and board member on the school’s Moot Court Team, and Fordham LALSA’s president. L ast year, Lorena brought Metro LALSA’s 6th annual Pa’lante Conference to Fordham and chaired the conference. Lorena was recently awarded an Equal Justice Works Fellowship, which will begin this summer after her graduation. Sponsored by DLA Piper and Verizon, she will be representing young single mothers from immigrant communities who are survivors of intimate partner violence.
Andrea is a second year law student at Fordham University School of Law. She was born in Quito, Ecuador, and emigrated to the United States at the age of nine. Andrea obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies and Psychology from St. John’s University. After graduation, she was a paralegal at a law firm in Rego Park, NY for four years. At Fordham, Andrea is a staff member of the Urban Law Journal, a board member of the Moot Court Team, Fordham LALSA’s fundraising chair, and an Advisor on the Board of Student Advisors. She is also a student of the school’s Immigrant Rights Clinic. Last summer, she was the inaugural participant of the Latino Judges Association’s Summer Internship Program and was the recipient of the Pa’lante Scholarship at MetroLALSA’s annual Pa’Lante Conference. She will be a summer associate at White & Case LLP this summer.
