Shantal D. Sparks is a Deputy Chief Counsel at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of the Chief Counsel in New York City. Previously, Shantal served as a Senior Court Attorney in Bronx County Family and Criminal Courts, and as a Graduate Law Clerk in New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term. Prior to attending law school, Shantal worked in the financial services industry.
Shantal has a strong commitment to public service and to the mission of increasing diversity in the legal profession. Previously, Shantal served as a coach with the Thurgood Marshall Junior Mock Trial Competition, and as a mentor with Legal Outreach, Inc. and Practicing Attorneys for Law Students, Inc. (PALS). Shantal is also an active member of various bar associations, including the Dominican Bar Association (DBA), Hispanic National Bar Association-Region II (HNBA) and Metropolitan Black Bar Association (MBBA).
Shantal earned her J.D., cum laude, from New York Law School, and her B.A. from University of Texas at San Antonio. She is a native of Panamá.
