Bio
Alexis Colon is a multiple awarded lawyer admitted to practice in the Dominican Republic and New York, and a diplomat with almost a decade of experience dealing with international trade, trade policy, trade diplomacy, and trade negotiations.
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Alexis started his academic studies in the field of Business Administration at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, before earning an associate degree in International Business at Tompkins Cortland Community College in New York, receiving both degrees with Summa Cum Laude and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society respectively.
In 2009, Alexis enrolled at Universidad del Caribe, culminating with a LLB degree in 2014, distinguished with Magna Cum Laude honors.
In 2015, he started his LLM studies at Georgetown University Law Center, graduating in 2016 with Distinction and Dean´s list from the Master of Laws in International Business and Economic Law program with a certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution.
His professional career started in 2007 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic by following up the negotiations on intellectual property at different multilateral organizations. In 2011, he was promoted to the National Commission of Trade Negotiations, where he was responsible for managing the Bilateral Negotiations and coordinating a numerous portfolio of investment, cooperation, and trade negotiations with several countries, as well as chairing the task-force to create the draft text of the Dominican model Bilateral Investment Treaty.
During 2016-2017 he was part of Locus Economica LLC, the world´s leading policy and legal firm for special economic zones, by advising on Latin American legislation concerning free zones and best international trade practices. Additionally, as a member of the Task Force on non-US qualified lawyers practicing in Maryland, he collaborated in the creation of the final recommendations to the Maryland State Bar Association about the economic impact of allowing non-US qualified lawyers to practice in that State.
Currently, he is the Managing Partner at COLON & PARTNERS, an international law firm specialized in Corporate, Real Estate, Intellectual Property, International Trade, and Free Zones, among other legal practices on a transnational level.
