Bio
Sergeant Johnny Rafael Núñez is a professional member of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) with over 20 years of experience. In 2002, he joined the Police Academy staff as a law instructor, successfully training more than 300 of the police officers who patrol the streets of New York City today.
In 2005, he was promoted to Sergeant and is assigned to the 42 precinct in the South Bronx.
At the end of 2006, Sergeant Núñez returned to the Academy as an Executive Trainer for the more than 900 Executive members of the Department in the rank of Captain and above.
In 2010, in conjunction with the Dominican Consulate in New York, he coordinated a Women Self Defense workshop for the Washington Heights community, which was also offered through the Mirabal Sisters Foundation in the Bronx.
On March 17of 2011, Sergeant Núñez was awarded the Citizen Merit Honor Award by the Dominican Government, through the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in New York.
In 2015, Sergeant Núñez served on a New York State panel on behalf of the NYC Police Department, addressing the issue of police community relations. He also served as a guest lecturer at Briarcliffe College speaking to criminal justice students about the levels of suspicion and stop, question and frisk.
During 2016, Sergeant Nunez was responsible for developing and disseminating the curriculum on Investigative Street Encounters (Levels of Suspicion), the Stop, Question & Frisk program and the revised Use Force Use Policy of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). In 2017, Sergeant Nunez successfully completed the highly coveted Leadership Institute Program at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and developed a two day training course for newly assigned Legal Bureau Supervising attorneys in the New York City Police Department.
Sergeant Núñez has a Bachelor's degree from Hunter College and a Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Baruch College. He also holds a Real Estate Sales License, is certified by the State of New York as a General Topics Instructor and by the Department of Education of the City of New York as a Per Diem acting Professor
