NYS Supreme Court Justice Hon. Patria Frias-Colón

In November 2022 Justice Patria Frias-Colón was elected to the New York State Supreme Court in Kings County. Prior to that, in December 2021, she was appointed to serve as the Supervising Judge for Queens County Civil Court. From January 2020 to January 2022, she served as a civil court judge assigned to the Kings County Civil Court. From January 2018 to January 2020, she was appointed as an Acting Family Court Judge and assigned to the Manhattan Family Court. She received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in African Studies from the University of Rochester and her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law.

Prior to becoming a judge, she was with the New York City Law Department’s Family Court Division as the Brooklyn Borough Chief. Prior to that, she was with the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Legal Services as the Assistant Deputy Counsel to the Chancellor. Judge Frias-Colón started her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA). Judge Frias-Colón also worked as an Adjunct Professor at St. John’s University School of Education.

Judge Frias-Colón lives by the mantra to whom much is given much is required and tries to be the best human being she can who also happens to be a judge.

The Judge is a proud Afro-Dominicana. Daughter of Altagracia Ureña and Jose Frias. She’s married to Robert Colón and together they are the proud parents of three phenomenal young adults who are also proud of their Dominican Heritage and visit the island often.
