Safe Passage is the largest provider of free legal services for immigrant children in New York State; we currently represent almost 1,000 young people, in both NYC and Long Island, who are facing deportation. These young people are not appointed a lawyer, and if they cannot afford one, they must defend themselves.
Safe Passage already works with over 400 volunteer attorneys, most of whom have no prior immigration law experience. They are paired with an expert Safe Passage Project mentor who provides them with resources, sample pleadings, and strategic guidance throughout the life of a case.
Safe Passage continues to grow to meet the needs of immigrant youth and are recruiting new pro bono attorneys to represent unaccompanied children in immigration court. Their goal is to recruit 250 new volunteers by the end of the year.
