    The Mayor's Advisory Committee on Judiciary is seeking recommendations for incumbent judges for their reappointment to the Criminal, Family and Interim Civil Court.

    The list of Interim Civil Court Judges whose terms will expire on December 31, 2018 can be found here.

    Information can be sent to the Committee on any personal experience with these candidates regarding their judicial temperament, treatment of attorneys, litigants and court personnel, fairness, ethics, legal ability, industriousness, case management skills, knowledge of current substantive and procedural law, etc.

    Please keep in mind that per the Committee's standards for accuracy and fairness, if any materially adverse information is presented, the Committee requests all available minutes of court proceedings demonstrating the facts in question.  If minutes are unavailable, the captions of cases, docket numbers, dates of court proceedings, and a brief explanation of the issues deemed relevant to the Committee's evaluation should be listed.

    The Latino Judges Association is now accepting applications for their 2018 Latino Judges Association Summer Internship program which will provide one law student with a very unique experience.  For more information and application, click here

    The application is due February 23, 2018 by 5 PM

    The intern will be under the supervision of a Judge or Justice assigned to the  New York City, New York State or Federal Court. The intern will rotate among the courts (Court of Appeals, Appellate Division, Supreme Court, Family Court, Criminal Court, Housing Court, Civil Court, Federal Court and/or Town Court) on a weekly to bi-weekly basis. The Internship will run from June 4, 2018 until August 10, 2018 and the student will receive a $2,500 stipend.  The application is due February 23, 2018 by 5 PM and accompanying materials may be sent via e-mail to Hon.     Job Description

    The Family Court Division is currently seeking applicants for the positions of Borough Chief (BC) in the Divisions Juvenile Delinquency Unit for the Brooklyn office. The qualified applicants will be selected by Division Management. Duties may include:  Acting as the chief legal, strategic, and policy advisor to borough operations and formulating legal and administrative policy for the borough office;  Assisting in the development and implementation of Raise the Age and of borough and division-wide policies, procedures and protocols; working with Deputy Borough Chiefs and Assistant Borough Chiefs to create and implement office initiatives;  Recommending legal and administrative policy to the Division Chief and Deputy Chief of the Family Court Division;  Overseeing the Deputy Borough Chiefs and Assistant Borough Chiefs in the borough;  Supervising the overall operations of the borough office, including supervising attorneys and their cases from referral through disposition both in and out of the courtroom, providing legal and strategic advice to attorneys on their cases; and assisting in the supervision of support professionals;  Supervising borough litigation and working collaboratively with other managers who have litigation oversight;  Overseeing delinquency intake operations to ensure cases are screened appropriately and charged appropriately and that case assignments are given to attorneys with the requisite level of experience for a particular case and training supervisors to properly make those assessments;  Promoting case processing efficiency at every stage of the proceeding;  Assisting attorneys with identifying, recommending, and referring matters for diversion and with negotiation of matters for pleas;  Identifying training needs of both legal and support staff and collaborating with the Director of Training and Deputy Director of Training to pursue trainings in areas of need identified; assisting with training of staff;  Promoting and implementing the boroughs community outreach initiative; maintain presence in community;  Developing and fostering a positive and supportive work environment to increase morale and motivate staff;  Ensuring that the facilities are adequately meeting the needs of the borough and that staff have a suitable work environment;  Pro-actively researching and analyzing legal issues on difficult cases and challenging legal issues;  Conducting case and transcript reviews; conducting courtroom observations and providing feedback to attorneys; reviewing written work;  Preparing, analyzing, and utilizing statistical data;  Writing, reviewing, and editing yearly performance evaluations for all staff; providing positive feedback to staff when appropriate; drafting, reviewing, and monitoring performance enhancement and action plans;  Providing weekly reports to Division Management, communicating with Division Management promptly regarding major cases, significant legal, personnel and interagency issues;  Representing the Division at interagency committee meetings and serving as a liaison to city and statewide agencies including but not limited to the NYPD, the Department of Probation and the Administration for Childrens Services;  Attending and participating in borough operations and management meetings. This position may require working/availability in the evening hours.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    The successful candidate will have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience by November 2017, and a demonstrated knowledge of and experience in delinquency/criminal law. Other necessary qualifications include strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and leadership skills. Admission to the NYS Bar is required.

    The CityLaw Breakfast Series events are free, open to the public, and broadcast by Crosswalks cable television throughout the five boroughs.  Fidel Del Valle, Commissioner  and Chief Judge of the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) will speak on Reforming OATH: Providing fairness and justice.

    The event will take place on Friday, February 10, 2017, from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at New York Law School -2nd Floor Events Center, 185 West Broadway (between Worth and Leonard Streets)New York, NY 10013.

    The event is free to attend but donations are welcomed.

    New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) is joining forces with Catholic Migration Services (CMS), Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, and three major law firms to host a naturalization clinic providing free immigration counsel to individuals across New York City. The free full-day clinic, which will take place onSaturday, January 28th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Office of Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams at 209 Joralemon St. in Brooklyn, will help registrants complete their naturalization applications, obtain fee waivers, and receive information about their immigration rights.

    The Bronx Bar Association, the Bronx County Catholic Guild, the Bronx Family Court Bar Association, the Bronx Women’s Bar Association, the Dominican Bar Association, the Jewish Lawyers Guild, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and the Puerto Rican Bar Association are happy to announce a series of one hour CLE programs in the first week of December in the Bronx Courts.  One program will be held in the Bronx Hall of Justice (265 East 161st Street), one program will be held in the Bronx County Courthouse (851 Grand Concourse), and one will be held in the Bronx Family Court Courthouse (900 Sheridan Avenue).  The “price” of admission of each program will be $10 and 5 canned goods, or $15 – the attendee’s choice.  The proceeds from the programs will be donated to the Bronx Office of the Family Justice Center, a program of New York City government that combats domestic violence.
