The Hispanic National Bar Association and HNBA VIA Fund are pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity for a highly-motivated first-year law student. Through this partnership, the HNBA and HNBA VIA Fund will select a student to join the 2020 summer law intern class at Prudential for a 10-week internship at Prudential’s New Jersey offices, for a stipend of approximately $10,000. The American Arbitration Association is now accepting applications for the 2020 AAA Higginbotham Fellows Program, which will be a milestone year – our 10th year. The training component of the Program will be hosted in New York during the week of May 3, 2020. During the Program, Fellows will engage with leading ADR practitioners for an intensive week of training, seminars, and networking events.

The AAA created this highly visible, extremely successful one-year program in 2009 to provide training, networking, and mentorship for up-and-coming diverse ADR practitioners, who historically have not been included in meaningful participation in the field. Since its inception, the AAA Higginbotham Fellowship Program continues to exceed expectations with past Fellows making gains in their ADR careers, including those who have successfully advanced to the AAA’s Roster of Arbitrators and Mediators.

The Executive Board of the Columbia Law School LaLSA Moot Court Program kindly requests your assistance in serving as a judge for the LaLSA Moot Court Internal Competition, which will take place from January 21 to January 23, 2020.
As you may know, the LaLSA Moot Court Program was established at Columbia Law School in 2012 as a specialized moot court focusing on significant legal issues related to immigration and asylum law. LaLSA Moot Court students study these issues as they prepare a written brief and oral argument in response to a complex immigration issue on appeal. This process will culminate with the LaLSA Moot Court’s Internal Competition to determine which students will represent Columbia Law School at the National U.C. Davis Immigration and Asylum Law Competition.
You are invited to sign up to judge one or more rounds of the LaLSA Moot Court Internal Competition.
The Internal Competition will take place on the evenings of January 21st, 22nd, and 23rd at Columbia Law School. There will be two rounds each evening, one from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, and another from 7:45 pm to 9:15 pm. You are welcome to sign up to judge as many rounds as you would like, but we realize that many judges may only be available for one round. For those who are able to judge multiple rounds, it will likely be easiest to judge two consecutive rounds on the same day to alleviate the burden of commuting multiple days. When you sign up to judge, you will receive a copy of the record and a bench memo close to the competition date. Please fill out this form to sign up to serve as a judge.
The LaLSA Moot Court Executive Board is also able to provide CLE credits for those that participate as judges in the internal competition. Credit would be applied towards the category of “Areas of Professional Practice.”
One New York CLE credit may be earned for each 50 minutes of participation. Only six credit hours can be earned for participation during each reporting cycle (two years). Credit hours are not available for the attorneys’ own preparation time. You will be required to sign a CLE sign-in and sign-out sheet, which we will provide.*

Columbia Law School has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Board as an Accredited Provider of CLE programs. Under New York State CLE regulations, this live non-transitional CLE event will apply the determined number of CLE credits to the Areas of Professional Practice requirement. Under New York State CLE regulations, this category of CLE credit is awarded only to non-transitional New York attorneys only. Attendance is determined by an attorney's sign-in and sign-out, as shown on the register. The Commercial and Federal Litigation Section is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for its 2019 Honorable Judith Kaye Commercial and Federal Litigation Scholarship, which has been established by the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). The scholarship(s) will be awarded to up to five female litigators and will cover the cost of their registration for either the 2019 session of the Commercial Litigation Academy, which is scheduled for November 14 to 15, 2019 in New York City (for those awardees who have previously registered for that session), or the next session which will take place in early 2021. The goal of the Scholarship is to help increase the number of women prepared to serve as first chair in large commercial cases. The Commercial Litigation Academy is sponsored by the NYSBA and the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section.
The “Kaye Scholars” will also be invited to attend the Section’s Annual Meeting and Gala Luncheon to be held on January 29, 2020 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City. Each “Kaye Scholar” will be presented with her award on November 13, 2019 during a program session which will take place in the Ceremonial Courtroom at the Southern District of New York in conjunction with the presentation of the Shira A. Scheindlin Award for Excellence in the Courtroom to female litigators who have had distinguished career in the courtroom in either the Federal or State Courts in New York and who have shown a commitment to mentoring young attorneys. The 2018 recipients of the Award are Sharon L. Nelles of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City and Sharon M. Porcello of Bond Schoeneck & King PLLC in Buffalo. A cocktail reception will follow the presentation of awards.
Eligibility: Female attorneys who have practiced commercial litigation between two and ten years since their admission to the New York State bar and who remain in good standing. In addition, recipients must attend the November 13, 2019 event when the scholarships will be awarded.
Scholarship Application Requirements To apply, please submit the following: 1. A letter (no more than two pages) stating why you should be selected as a Kaye Scholar and how receiving this scholarship would benefit your career or for the next session which will be scheduled in late 2020 or early 2021.

American Constitution Society’s 2019 National Lawyer Convening on October 17–19, in Atlanta, GA is offering a Public Interest Fellowship scholarship. The scholarship covers travel (airfare, rail, or mileage) and registration costs for public interest and government attorneys earning $100,000 or less.
