The Committee on Attorney Professionalism administers the annual New York State Bar Association Attorney Professionalism Award. They are now seeking nominations to be presented during the NYSBA 2017 Annual Meeting in New York.
Nominations must be submitted no later than October 14, 2016.

The US District Court for the Eastern District of New York ADR Department is conducting a Mediation Advocacy Training on September 14, 2016 for attorneys interested in participating in the EDNY Mediation Advocacy Program [MAP]. The EDNY MAP matches pro se litigants with limited scope pro bono counsel for employment discrimination mediations. The September training offers attorneys interested in participating in MAP with a basic overview of employment law, tools for working with pro se parties, and mediation advocacy skills. Attorneys who participate in the Mediation Advocacy Training are eligible to provide pro bono representation to EDNY pro se litigants in matters of employment discrimination. The duration of an average MAP representation is six weeks from the first meeting with the pro se party to the completion of the mediation. The EDNY ADR Department is seeking mediators with substantial knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to join the EDNY Mediation Panel. The EDNY Mediation Program is run under Local Civil Rule 83.8

Applicants must complete the EDNY Mediation Panel Application which is available on the EDNY ADR website: https://www.nyed.uscourts.gov/alternative-dispute-resolution and submit one letter of reference from a person who has direct knowledge of the applicant’s skill as a mediator, and one letter of reference from a person who has direct knowledge of the applicant’s knowledge of the FLSA. Many EDNY litigants speak languages other than English. Please indicate below if you can speak languages other than English and if so what languages. Those who speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Polish, Russian, and Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York serves a wide variety of litigants, including persons of varying age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, religion, socioeconomic and family status. The Court’s ADR Department recognizes that mediators with a wide variety of cultural and life experiences enrich the mediation process by bringing diverse perspectives to resolving disputes. To that end, applicants of all diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply for the training. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office is hosting a competitive summer internship program for high school students who live or attend school in the borough.
The program is open to qualifying sophomores, juniors and rising seniors who must be able to commit to the entire duration of the program, which will run from July 11 to August 12, from 9am to 4pm Thursday, and 9am to 12:30pm on Friday.
Students will receive a weekly $150 stipend and a MetroCard. Applicants are required to supply their most recent school transcripts, a one-page resume, two letters of recommendation and evaluation forms, from either a teacher, coach, or mentor, and must submit a 300 word typed essay (12 pt. font and double-spaced) on why they are interested in interning with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office and what impact they think it will have on their future personal and professional endeavors.
Completed documents should be emailed to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office at edprograms@brooklynda.org in pdf format, with the subject line: “Brooklyn DA Summer Internship Program,” no later than May 11.
